Understanding of the essence of Venice through memory making and overlapping of stories

Work on display at the Lighthouse, Glasgow

“Conversations with locals and exhibition visitors have allowed to understand the importance of memory and the great amount of stories that take place within the urban fabric. Although the topic has remained fairly similar, the past weeks have allowed for further development and understanding on: the kind of stories, how they may be collected, and how they may take form.

There is two parts to the gathering of stories, a physical collection of objects, to be photographed, labelled and catalogued (as an inventory). The objects are linked to particular stories, or people, and are able to hold or trigger memories (despite these being very personal and only applying to a singular person).

The second part is the recording of the background story, which is documented through personal interviews and then transcribed.”
