Personal Structures – Open Borders

Bringing together a number of artists from various different nationalities and at differing stages in their careers; the European Cultural Centre’s exhibition creates a dialogue between European cultures and cultures of the rest of the world in which the concepts of Time, Space and Existence are reflected upon.

 

Omar Hassan: Do Ut Des

Chiesetta della Misericordia

Investigating the dialogue between sculpture and painting and the relationship between classical and contemporary art, Do Ut Des is Hassan’s first solo exhibition in Venice.

Decomposing present photographs alluding to cyberbalkanisation; the artist Boris Mikhailov presents photographs of television footage of parliamentary debates to reflect on the global political climate and the distraction of reality through media.

 

Slater B. Bradley: Sundoor at World’s End

La Maddalena

The installation of seven shields, created by the artist over the last two years, deals with notions of cultural icons, transcendence and the de/reconstructions of symbols. The sculptural work is directly inspired by the architecture of La Maddalena.

 

Diaspora Pavilion

The exhibition of nineteen artists whose practice questions the term diaspora, draws attention to the continued relevance of diaspora in the world today.
