Around and about in Cannaregio
This year the Scottish Pavilion is located at the heart of Cannaregio in the North of the city. We have put together a list of just some of the other exhibitions, pavilions and events nearby that you might want to take a look at as well when visiting us!
Personal Structures – Open Borders
Palazzo Bembo, Palazzo Mora and Giardini Marinaressa
Bringing together a number of artists from various different nationalities and at differing stages in their careers; the European Cultural Centre’s exhibition creates a dialogue between European cultures and cultures of the rest of the world in which the concepts of Time, Space and Existence are reflected upon.
Omar Hassan: Do Ut Des
Chiesetta della Misericordia
Investigating the dialogue between sculpture and painting and the relationship between classical and contemporary art, Do Ut Des is Hassan’s first solo exhibition in Venice.
Guatemala Pavillion
La Marge
Palazzo Albrizzi-capello
Invited artists analyse the various meanings of the margin; “the place of conjunction between two different material realms”.
Iran Pavillion
Tapesh: The Golden Reserve of Magmatic Thought
Palazzo Dona Dalle Rose
Conceived as a vast polyphonic composition, but also as a symbolic deposit of works that continued over the years, the show is illustrative of a single concept in the outcome of an action diversified in the form of its art.
Kiribati Pavillion
Ars Longa, Vita Brevis
Palazzo Mora
Through performance, the artists and curators aim to draw attention to issues of climate change and rising sea levels while also conveying their passion for life and art.
Romainian Pavillion
Geta Bratescu – Apparitions
Campo Santa Fosca, Palazzo Correr
The exhibition explores the artists studio space as both a physical space and as a metaphysical entity – “Memory is apparition; an epiphany, like art.”
Ukrainian Pavilion
Parliament (2014-2016)
Studio Cannaregio 1345/D
Decomposing present photographs alluding to cyberbalkanisation; the artist Boris Mikhailov presents photographs of television footage of parliamentary debates to reflect on the global political climate and the distraction of reality through media.
Slater B. Bradley: Sundoor at World’s End
La Maddalena
The installation of seven shields, created by the artist over the last two years, deals with notions of cultural icons, transcendence and the de/reconstructions of symbols. The sculptural work is directly inspired by the architecture of La Maddalena.
Diaspora Pavilion
Palazzo Pisani Santa Marina
The exhibition of nineteen artists whose practice questions the term diaspora, draws attention to the continued relevance of diaspora in the world today.
