Following its run at the 61st International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia (May 9 – November 22, 2026), Shame Parade will return to Scotland as part of its UK tour supported by Art Fund. It will make its domestic debut at Mount Stuart on the Isle of Bute on 17th April 2027, opening the 26th year of visual arts programming at Mount Stuart. Read more

A dark corridor on arrival becomes throat walls as gulping noises play along its narrow green-lit passage leading to Bugarin + Castle’s Venice presentation. ‘Autophony’ is the relevant term for hearing my own biological functioning: creaking, pulsing organs and bones from within. Read more

In the second week here, we move a Vaporetto ride away from Venice and start travelling to work every day across the water. After the first few rides, I stumble off the boat physically, to spend my days on land, internally swaying, asking if anyone else is and realising I’ve left brain and senses on the boat and they’re off doing the rounds of the island. For me, Bugarin + Castle are quite easily the standout artists at this year’s Venice Biennale. Both young and right at the beginning of their collaborative artistic career, Davide Bugarin and Angel Cohn Castle first crossed paths in Edinburgh, where they were both performing in the city’s queer cabaret scene. The camera I took with me to Venice belonged to my dad; he bought it in the 1980s and it has travelled with him all over the world. Some of the first photographs of me to ever exist were taken on this camera. Read more

In a new partnership between Scotland + Venice and The Skinny, we can now introduce the Emerging Writers in Venice opportunity for selected participants from the Professional Development Programme. During their time with Shame Parade, Senior Exhibition Associate Lily Lavorato and Exhibition Associates Samuel Riddy, Annabelle Crowner and Bessie Schofield will share ideas and write an article that draws inspiration from their time in Venice, whether an exhibition review, interview or feature.
