Australian Pizza Party

One of the perks of being part of the learning program (apart from living in Venice!), is the amount of people you meet in a similar situation to your own.

Working as a part of the learning program for Scotland and Venice has been an invaluable opportunity for us all. It’s impossible not to think more about art, the context of the art world and where you as a new artist fit into all of this, but it’s not as gloomy as it sounds!

One of the perks of being part of the learning program (apart from living in Venice!), is the amount of people you meet in a similar situation to your own. Meeting up with different invigilators across all the different pavilions. It gives you the chance to converse with each other. It’s exciting chatting to people who you would never have the opportunity to before.

The Australian Pavilion were kind enough to invite us and many other invigilators out for some pizza, as part of a Professional Development program they have. The aim of this was to get everyone together and to socialise. This was a good chance to formalise the conversations we were already having and have some amazing Italian pizza.

The main point we all agreed on was, whilst we’re in Venice we have a very unique and interesting time. We all get together to discuss lots of different things, these discussions are important to us, and it’s a shame these conversations have to end after we leave Venice. So why should it? We’re all very keen to keep up these conversations, and with current technology it’s very easy too as well.

Amongst other things, including nearly entering a food coma because of all the pizza, everyone seemed really excited to stay in touch. It’s little things like this which help solidify how important opportunities like this are for emerging artists.
