Scotland + Venice is a major, international project designed to promote the best of contemporary art and architecture from Scotland on the world stage. Founded in 2003 the project supports the development of new work, fosters international connections and exchange, and positions Scotland as a vibrant place for creative and cultural production.
Through participation in La Biennale, Scotland + Venice aims to position Scotland internationally as a distinct, dynamic and diverse centre for creative excellence, fostering ambitious, innovative work in the fields of contemporary art and architecture, strengthened through international development, professional dialogue, public engagement and cultural exchange. Scotland + Venice was founded in 2003 initially to develop and promote the best contemporary art from Scotland on an international stage at the Venice Biennale, which was established in 1895. Since 2008 we have also participated in the Architecture Biennale. Read more
Scotland + Venice is a partnership which comprises, Creative Scotland, British Council Scotland, National Galleries Scotland, Architectures & Design Scotland and Scottish Government. The partnership is the main funder and commissioning body, appointing a different curatorial partner or project for each Biennale working with artists and architectural practices. Read more
Scotland + Venice is committed to providing development opportunities across the teams of people we work with as well as for students and early year practitioners. We run a dedicated Professional Development Programme in partnership with Universities and Colleges and other organisations to provide opportunities for students to work in Venice at the exhibition and develop their own area of research.
