Let me pose you a question…
…You approach two doors: one door leads to the city of truths while the other leads to the city of lies. You can ask only one question to decide which path to follow. The door that leads to the city of lies always speaks lies while the door that leads to the city of truth always speaks truth.
Which door would you ask?
On truth and untruth: Scotland’s Rachel Maclean explores the contemporary political rhetoric and the manipulation of language for one’s own personal, corporate or political gain in her new film Spite Your Face at the 57th Venice Biennale.
Situated in the cavernous interior of Chiesa di Santa Catarina in Canareggio, now deconsecrated, the film moves between two worlds where all is not what it appears and moral judgements are tested.
Over the next six months, we will use this space as a chance to look in detail at the exhibition and the concepts behind the work, explore what else is on offer over the Biennale and share our own experiences as part of Scotland+Venice professional development team 2017.
For those of you who haven’t had a chance yet to see the exhibition – check out below some of the incredible install shots with Rachel.
If you have any thoughts or questions please get in touch!
